Coupled Pendulum Oscillations

Item Code: SK067

Principle and Working:

Two equal length pendulums with same mass have a particular characteristic frequency are coupled by a spiral spring. The amplitudes of both pendulums are recorded as a function of time for various vibrational modes and different coupling factors using a motion detector. The setup can be used to study “in-phase”, “out of phase”, “beat” and "degree of coupling" mode.

  • Rotary motion sensor with angular accuracy of ± 0.125 Degree and max. speed of 1 m/s.
  • Data Logger with real time data plotting facility and 100K sampling rate.
  • Free data analyzing software.
  • Pendulum weight & pendulum coupling length can be changed.

  • To study the characteristic frequency of uncoupled pendulum.
  • To study the normal modes and resonance of coupled pendulum.
